Care Worker Rate
To acknowledge the critical value care work has to the basic functioning of our communities, I offer a reserved number of spaces at a 20% reduced rate for people who do care work.
As someone who has worked in Scotland’s third sector for the last 11 years, as well as being part of pro-choice and labour union movements, I know that the cost of counselling and psychotherapy is a major barrier for people who do care work.

Where those doing paid care work have access to therapy, it’s most often to EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) schemes. EAP schemes offer little choice or control over what kind of therapy people can access, or what specialisms they might need in a therapist. This can leave people without the support that fits their individual needs. Where their identities are marginalised or minoritised, it can also leave them accessing therapy that is not competent in the basics of their experience. This can make therapy an experience ranging anywhere from less effective to actively harmful.

The situation is often even starker for those doing unpaid care work, be it as an activist, volunteer or a carer. For most people doing unpaid care, there is no such access to EAP schemes. They tirelessly offer their emotional, practical and physical labour despite a lack of support.

So whether you’re an activist who organises your local Pride, a volunteer who runs your local food bank, a worker who offers frontline support and advocacy in outreach services, or an administrator painstakingly writing grant funding applications; care work deserves respect, fair pay and resourcing.
Every act of care, whether it’s through organising, providing, or resourcing, paid or unpaid, is not only valid but invaluable.

Please note: I offer a reserved number of spaces at a 20% reduced rate for people who do care work. Access is therefore based on a first-come, first-served basis. I am however operating a waiting list. If you would like to join the waiting list to access reduced rate sessions, please submit your contact details via the form below.
